Adam Maloney

Adam’s legal philosophy is inspired by his roots. Growing up in the small town of Osakis, he graduated from high school in 2008.  He went on to receive his undergraduate degree at Dakota Wesleyan University in 2012 with a major in criminal justice while playing on the college golf team.  After college, Adam decided he wanted to pursue more education in the legal field. Adam was accepted to William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul. During law school, he gained practical experience by participating in a criminal appeals clinic with the Minnesota Appellate Public Defender’s Office and an externship with the Stearns County Public Defender’s Office. Adam graduated from law school in the winter of 2016.

After law school, Adam spent time volunteering at Legal Services in Alexandria, Minnesota where he assisted staff attorneys with legal research, drafting and observed client meetings in the areas of family and civil law.

Adam worked as a judicial law clerk for District Court Judges Rodney C. Hanson and Amy J. Doll in the Northern and Central Assignment Areas of the 8^th Judicial District.  He gained broad experience by performing legal research, drafting orders and attending court hearings and trials in the areas of civil law, family law, criminal law including disputes involving property and probate. He also clerked for Judge Thomas Van Hon in the Southern Assignment Area of the 8^th District in Chippewa County. Adam assisted Judges remotely in the 10^th district with overflow eviction court matters during the Covid 19 Pandemic.

Adam’s experience working in various geographic regions and areas of law have broadened his knowledge base and have contributed to his understanding of the legal practice.

In 2025, Adam started as a part time Assistant County Attorney for the Pipestone County Attorney’s Office and part time private practice in the areas of Estate Planning, Probate, Agricultural and Real Property, and Business Law.  During this time, he gained multifaceted experience prosecuting major criminal cases and arguing appeals while also creating estate plans for clients. Adam routinely worked with clients on wills, trusts, probate, non-probate transfers, agricultural farm leases, and succession planning of family farms including tax planning.

In 2026, Adam relocated to the Mankato Area and joined Birkholz Law. He assists clients in Mankato, St. James and Southern Minnesota communities as an attorney practicing in the areas of Estate Planning, Probate, Property and Business Law. Adam’s passion in the legal field has come from helping clients understand complicated legal matters and creating an effective plan that accomplishes their goals.

Outside of work, Adam enjoys spending time with family, including his wife, Hanna, his two daughters, Alice, and Isabel, and his two cats. He enjoys playing golf. His other hobbies include rooting for the Minnesota Vikings, playing guitar, reading, playing video games and going to the movies.
