Dana Hamilton

Dana loves Family Law and helping partners navigate divorce and custody issues. She has spent her 20 plus year career working in fields with and for the benefit of children. She is passionately devoted to her clients and brings a depth of experience that few family law attorneys can match.

Dana is originally from Iowa but graduated from college in Ohio and law school in Missouri, and then spent 27 years practicing law in Texas before relocating to Minnesota. During law school, she served as a Law Clerk to a property professor and a contracts professor, building a strong foundation in the legal principles that underpin family law and asset division.

Early in her career, Dana clerked for Supreme Court of the U.S. appellate attorney Dennis J.C. Owens, gaining invaluable experience in appellate advocacy at the highest level. She also volunteered as a Clerk for the Missouri State Public Defender’s Office Appellate Division, where she wrote the briefs for two successful appeals, one of which changed Missouri law on the weighing of drugs.

In Texas, Dana was recognized as No. 8 on the list of Best Family Law Attorneys in Collin County in both 2021 and 2022, and received an Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Representation from the State Bar of Texas. She was also part of the group of attorneys who created the Zoom court procedures during COVID under Judge Emily Miskel, procedures that were adopted by most of the country. Judge Miskel was subsequently awarded the Pioneer of Justice Award from the Supreme Court of the United States, presented by Justice John Roberts.

Her experience practicing in multiple states gives her a broad perspective on family law and the ability to draw on different approaches when crafting strategies for her clients. She understands that every family situation is unique and takes the time to listen to her clients’ concerns and goals before developing a plan of action. Her decades of experience mean she has handled virtually every type of family law matter, from straightforward divorces to highly contested custody disputes. She brings calm, steady guidance to what is often one of the most stressful periods in a person’s life.

Outside the office, Dana has two college-aged daughters and is an animal lover with two dogs and three cats. She enjoys movies, reading and is active in her church community.
